Our Preschool children were excited to have the Year 13 College Prefects visit and enjoy fun activities covering Sports, Arts and Science.
While our 3-and-4-year-olds were slightly star struck at first, they soon got into the swing of things, enjoy spending time learning through talking and playing. Our teachers were equally impressed by the well thought through programme and ability of the College Prefects in capturing the attention and sharing knowledge with the Preschool children.
There was a natural affinity between the youngest and the older students. From playing ‘chicken tag’ to making lava lamps and volcanoes in the sandpit, to singing and dancing, and drawing and painting, our children enjoyed every minute of their time with the College Prefects.
This exercise echoes our Preschools’ emphasis on fostering the tikanga Maori value of tuakana-teina, the reciprocal support of learning between older and younger children. It is safe to say that a strong bond was nurtured between the College Prefects and our Preschool children through this programme.
We would like to thank the College Prefect Team for their service, energy, passion, humour and patience!
