Making academic excellence a habit

Recognising our Year 12 Academic Colours and Honours achievers.

The College hosted an online assembly to celebrate the achievements of our Year 12 students who attained the highest levels of academic excellence. These students were presented with the recognition of Academic Colours and Honours by Acting College Principal, Mr Duncan McQueen.

Speaking at the ceremony, which was recorded and streamed for parents to view, Assistant Principal and Director of Student Futures, Hannah Williams shared Aristotle’s view on excellence as a character trait that humans need in order to live life at its best.

She elaborated, “It does not mean perfect, but it does mean you have the drive to be the best version of yourself possible. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence therefore isn’t just an act, it is a habit.

“Today we have gathered to celebrate young people who have made academic excellence a habit. To all the families watching online, thank you for supporting and encouraging your family members.”

Towards the end of the assembly, the College announced this year’s top Year 12 achiever, Sean Wang, who achieved an impressive GPA of 100 and attained five scholarships.

In his closing remarks, Mr McQueen added, “Academic excellence continues to be our priority here at the College. We want all our students to achieve, be the best they can be and be well prepared in their next stage of learning and careers. For those of you here, this is just one small step on that path.” While applauding achievements, Mr McQueen urged students to reflect on their next move, to support and challenge one another, to reach out to teachers and to push themselves to make a difference and perform to the best of their ability.

Every year, the standard set to gain academic awards is extremely high and intended to motivate top academic students to achieve at the highest levels of excellence. The table below shows the standards required for Colours or Honours in Year 11 subjects:
