Vincent Cheng to represent NZ in Robotics World Championship

Year 8 Vincent Cheng and his teammate emerged first place at the 2021-2022 VEX IQ Challenge Nationals held in Palmerston North recently, winning two awards, the Teamwork Champions Award with overall top score and the Amaze Award.

His team, 3168H, is one of only three teams who will represent New Zealand in the VEX IQ Challenge for Elementary School category at the 2022 VEX Robotics World Championship. The World Championship which is held in the USA will bring together over 600 teams from all around the world to showcase their invention in May.

Vincent and his teammate have been working on their invention since July last year and continued through virtual meetings during lockdown to complete the design process. They then built and coded their creation over the summer holiday and subsequently rushed to collaboratively manoeuvre their robot to complete the required tasks ahead of the Nationals.

Please join us in congratulating Vincent on his amazing feat. We can’t wait to see your work at the World Championship in May.

On to the VRC National Championship Series…

Meanwhile, Vincent is already getting ready for another robotics competition, the 2021-2022 New Zealand VRC National Championship Series, this weekend. He will be the youngest member in his team and we wish him all the best!
